Our old porch held moments so dear
With fondness, I remember them clear
Of the times that we'd sing
In that rickety old swing
Grinning from ear to ear

We'd bellow out Bringing in the Sheaves
In The Garden and Precious Memories
To this day that is why
Tears come to my eyes
When I hear those sweet melodies

From that old swing, our voices would swell
Though we never did really excel
There we sang with delight
In the gentle moonlight
Now those times have long bid farewell

The porch wasn't used just for swinging
Nor just for harmonious singing
Sometimes, we'd do chores
While sitting outdoors
Often times, beans we'd be stringing

There was always a baby to rock
No matter the hour on the clock
There were comics and dress-up and jacks
And eating our potted meat snacks
Or sometimes, just hemming a frock

In the fall, we would anxiously wait
For Daddy to come through the gate
With our new clothes for school
Oh, how we would drool
Such bedlam, we'd always create

Daddy always brought us a treat
A toy or something to eat
He would break out in smile
And let us play for awhile
Our Daddy was always so neat

Mother had her favorite chair
We always knew not to sit there
She would sit there and knit
Close her eyes for a bit
Then she often lingered in prayer

Do people sit on the porch any more
Or is just a way to the door
Good times, they are missing
'Cause I was just wishing
To be on that front porch once more
